No, the VHS to DVD software installer will prompt you to connect the device near the end of the installation process.
-
[VHS to DVD 3.0 Deluxe] No capture device connected or unable to initialize capture device.
This is an indication that your USB TV capture box driver is corrupted. We recommend that you remove and reinstall the Capture device driver following the steps below:

http://www.honestech.com/main/support_driver.asp

[VHS to DVD 3.0 Deluxe] How do I register my "product registration key" for VHS to DVD 3.0?
You can register your product registration key by choosing the Advanced mode, clicking on the 'question mark'(?) in the upper right corner and selecting 'Register product registration key'
-
[VHS to DVD 3.0 Deluxe] Burning Failed (SenseKey error).
ERROR CODE : SenseKey(5), ASC:(0), ASCQ: (2)
Some customers have reported receiving the above error or similar, when trying to burn a DVD after recording using VHS to DVD.
A failed burn can be a symptom of several different issues.
In an effort to cover every possibility, we recommend you follow the steps listed below:
- Remove any Video_TS folders or files found in your Capture folder - C:\Program Files\honestech VHS to DVD Deluxe\Capture
- Check for DVD drive hardware/firmware updates from the manufacturer's website.
Optical drive (CD/DVD ROM/Writer) manufacturers are constantly updating their firmware and/or drivers to make their hardware compatible with various media (blank CD/DVDs) from various manufacturers.
- Try burning with a different brand of DVD media(discs), a different format(+R or -R), and also different speed(4x, 8x, 16x etc..).
Many DVD burners are limited to using certain DVD formats and disc speeds, you may need to check you manual, box or manufacturer's website for exact specifications.
- Set a slower burn speed on your burner if possible, or use the Advanced mode of VHS to DVD to change the burn speed prior to burning.
-
[VHS to DVD 3.0 Deluxe] Can I convert my 8mm video tapes with VHS to DVD?
Yes, VHS to DVD will allow you to import almost any type of video as long as you are able to connect the video playing device to your computer, using a video capture card or our USB 2.0 capture box.
If using our USB 2.0 capture box, you will need to connect via RCA (phono) or S-Video connectors.
-
[VHS to DVD 3.0 Deluxe] Where does VHS to DVD store video files on my computer?
If you are using the Advanced mode, VHS to DVD will store all video files to the following default directory :
C:\Program Files\honestech VHS to DVD Deluxe\Capture
This location can be customized by changing the 'Output Folder' setting.
The One Touch Easy Wizard mode captures video to a temporary storage folder which is emptied upon completion of each recording.
-
[VHS to DVD 3.0 Deluxe] My video looks pink and green, what is wrong?
This indicates a possible USB problem. Please follow the steps below to correctly identify the USB version installed on your computer:
- Click the Start button and select 'Run'
- Type devmgmt.msc and click OK
- Click on the "+" next to Universal Serial Bus controllers
- Look to see if any of the controllers listed include the word "Enhanced" or "2.0".
If you do not see the word "Enhanced" or "2.0" listed, this would indicate that your computer does not have USB 2.0. VHS to DVD requires USB 2.0 for proper video transfer. To correct this issue a USB 2.0 PCI card will need to be installed in your computer.
If you do see "Enhanced" or "2.0", please make sure you have your USB 2.0 capture device connected directly to your computer and not through a USB hub.
-
[VHS to DVD 3.0 Deluxe] Why does my video drop frames while recording in VHS to DVD?
Also make sure to have your USB 2.0 capture device connected directly to your computer and not through a USB hub.
VHS to DVD is dependent on video codec for proper video recording and playback. Please verify you have latest video codec that comes with Windows XP and Windows Media Player.
Depending on your computers CPU speed, lowering the quality settings and/or adjusting the resolution settings in the Advanced mode can also help to prevent dropped frames.
-
[VHS to DVD 3.0 Deluxe] Where is my product/serial key?
Your product/serial key should be located on front or back of the CD jewel case that the software CD shipped in.
-
[VHS to DVD 3.0 Deluxe] Why do I receive a 'copy protected' error message when trying to copy my personal video tapes?
If you are experiencing this issue, please contact our customer care staff via our support email address.
