FAQs
| • [Video Patrol 5.0] Is there a way to test Video Patrol 5.0 before purchasing to verify it will work with my cameras?
| | • [Video Patrol 5.0] What type of cameras can I use?
The Video Patrol software was designed to work with USB PC/Web cams. We do not have a definitive list of compatible web cams, but we have discovered that most webcams will work fine as long as you avoid using more than one of the same type/brand of camera.
It is also possible to use different types of cameras but it will depend on whether the Video Patrol software is able to recognize the drivers installed for any non USB PC/Web cams.
You can use the ‘Camera Setting’ tab from the Options button to see if the drivers are selectable for your non-USB camera(s).
| | • [Video Patrol 5.0] Can I use multiple, same brand web cams with Video Patrol 5.0?
It is strongly recommend to use different brands of cameras for best results.
Unfortunately the Windows operating system is unable to run multiple instances of the same USB driver simultaneously. This means that if you want to use multiple webcams, each camera must be able to access its own driver (software) in order to function simultaneously with any other camera.
| | • [Video Patrol 5.0] Does the program record continuously, or is it motion triggered?
Video Patrol 5 can be configured to do both. Use the options button (gears) to access the recording options in the General tab, and select your desired setting.
| | • [Video Patrol 5.0] Do I need a static or dynamic IP address to access my cameras remotely?
Video Patrol requires that you use a static (fixed) IP address. Unfortunately Video Patrol 5 will not work with Virtual IP or DHCP (dynamic IP) addresses.
| • [Video Patrol 5.0] How do I set up my router to work with Video Patrol?
We recommend www.portforward.com for help and instructions on setting up your specific router. Simply select your router model from the Router List and then choose “Video Patrol” as the program you wish to set up port forwarding for.
| | • [Video Patrol 5.0] When I set up Port Forwarding, what port should I forward to?
You will need to forward port 8010 for the IP address of your computer running the Video Patrol software.
| | • [Video Patrol 5.0] Why am I not able to log in to my Video Patrol 5.0 Server from a different location?
You may need to uncheck the option "Check if you are accessing the camera from inside the network" in the "Network Setting" tab of the Options window.
*It is also important that you connect to the address listed after "Client Page" and that your router is configured with the HTTP Server port open.
| • [Video Patrol 5.0] How do I register my coupon number?
In order to register your coupon number for Video Patrol 5.0, please follow the steps below.
- Go to www.my-iptv.com
- Log in using your ID and password
- If you do not have your own account yet, please click the “Sign Up” button to create an account.
- Select the “Registration” tab from the top to access the Coupon Registration page.
- (IMPORTANT) Make sure to select “Video Patrol 5.0” on the left. If you do not select “Video Patrol 5.0” on the left, the coupon number will not be accepted.
- Enter the required information and click “Submit”.
| | • [Video Patrol 5.0] Can you adjust the video resolution to make the picture quality better?
Currently it is not possible to adjust the video resolution above the default 320x240 settings.
| | • [Video Patrol 5.0] Why is Video Patrol 5.0 not sending e-mails automatically?
Typically this occurs when using Outlook Express as your default e-mail client. To fix this issue, the security setting that blocks Outlook Express from sending automatically will need to be disabled.
To do this, open Outlook Express and choose 'Options' under the 'Tools' menu.
Choose the 'Security' tab and uncheck the box that says "Warn me when other applications try to send mail as me".
Click 'OK'.
